"What should my grain settings be?"

This question was one I asked many photographers when I first began experimenting with adding grain to my images. I admired its effect in other photography and sought to incorporate it into my workflow.

Initially, finding the perfect settings was somewhat challenging because each photo varies in sharpness and detail. It involves a lot of trial and error. You never want it to appear overdone; rather, you aim for it to look just right, especially since you're essentially trying to emulate a film look in digital photography.

That's why I created the Chad Lawson Vintage Grain Photoshop plugin extension.

It features six different grain presets designed for various scenarios, allowing you to achieve the ideal grain appearance for your images. Even after application, you can fine-tune it by adjusting the opacity settings.

For images like beauty shots with more intricate details compared to full-body shots, you might need to use a higher grain level, and vice versa. This plugin offers six options for you to choose from and experiment with.

It creates a non-destructive smart layer of your photo with the grain filter applied that you can toggle off and on, and also change the opacity.

This plugin will undoubtedly help you achieve that vintage film grain vibe in your photos.
